NOTICE I:
ART FRAUD
- Protecting what matters
According to the inaugural Wealth Report* from Chubb released in December 2023, High-Net-Worth (HNW) individuals in Canada and the United States find it more challenging than ever to build and protect their wealth.
HNW individuals list climate and internal home-related risks, the economy, fraud and potentially ruinous lawsuits as the key challenges.
80 % of respondents own treasured collections such as fine art, jewellery, cars, fine wines and other valuables. 62% of them say they have a passion for what they collect while 38% see collection items primarily as an investment.
87% of respondents listed ART FRAUD as the top risk to their collection.
The Wealth Report is based on a survey of 800 High Net Worth (HNW) individuals in the USA and Canada conducted in September and October 2023 on behalf of Chubb.
In 2023, massive art fraud in the Canadian art market shook the market and more is expected.**

NOTICE II:
MANAGING ART FRAUD RISK
- The importance of the Primary Market & Provenance
For art to increase in value, authenticity and impeccable provenance are among the essential conditions.
Beware of
: falsified or forged documents or affirmations presented by any seller either through the Internet or through galleries or private individuals and auctioneers. Such practices constitute a criminal offense.
As Mary Rozell, global head of the UBS Art Collection, the world's largest corporate collection, explains***:
" Buying artwork is risky… You have to ask the right questions, do due diligence, especially on the secondary market… We (UBS Art Collection) almost always buy works on the primary market… "
" (...) For secondary market works, another level of due diligence is necessary, focusing on a work’s authenticity, provenance and condition."
